How to cancel PayPal Automatic Payment

Posted By: zainal on January, 07 2008

Paypal recurring payments allow seller to automatically renew the subscription payment on the expiry date. In other words, if you bought the subscription using Paypal, your subscription will be automatically renewed and your debit/credit card will be charged at the time the billing cycle is triggered. This process continues until you cancel the service.

To stop recurring billing charges:

1) Login to your Paypal Account.

2) Put your mouse over the “History” and click “Basic Search” as shown below.

3) Set a filter: More filters > Subscriptions and Agreements > Subscriptions (see screenshot)

You’ll get a list of all your subscriptions and their status as shown below.

4) Click “Details” or the name of subscription you wish to cancel.

5) At the Subscription page, Click “Cancel Subscription” as shown below.

6) On the next page, you will be asked to confirm the cancellation. Click the “Cancel Subscription” button to complete the cancellation.

7) You are done!

Manage your Billing Agreement by logging into your PayPal account and clicking the Pay List link under your Profile. In your Profile, you can choose and edit your preferred funding source and cancel your Billing Agreement.

Sure, you can cancel the recurring payments. But the first recurring payment will already be gone, and Paypal will not help you. Pay for a $10, one day trial, and one hour later, you could be out $10 + $100 (the first monthly payment). And there will be nothing on the webpage to inform you about this arrangement. You better be quick, or good-bye cash !

Paypal is nasty! This automatic payments are hidden very well. This must be on first page on paypal!! Thanks mate.

Thanks all. One of these subscriptions slipped by me last year. The cancelling is a little vague. Makes me suspicious, could it be that they are playing a numbers game with the automatic payments.

But thanks to your instructions I cancelled all recurring payments.

None of this advice was helpfull, you must be using alien versions of paypal, whatever I click there is no option to cancel anywhere and as for Dianes shadowy highlighted numbers which “took her staright to the cancel page”…..BS

Thank you SO much for this! I just got royally screwed by paypal. Not only are they punishing me for using them (with no option, I might add!) when I sell on eBay by holding my money, they just now charged me for the first time with this recurring nonsense I didn’t even know was applied. The worst part of this is I have $200 + just waiting for them to release it, since they charged my bank account without enough to cover it, I’m out my last $20.00 and my bank is going to tack on another $35.00 fee for insufficiant funds! They have just completely ruined my Christmas. Thanks PayPal. With Pals like you, who needs muggers?

How do I cancel a recurring payment, subscription, or automatic billing agreement I have with a merchant?

    Here’s how:

Log in to your PayPal account.
Click Profile near the top of the page.
    Click My money.
Click Update in the My preapproved payments section.
Click Cancel or Cancel automatic billing and follow the instructions.

If you don’t have a PayPal account, you should contact the merchant directly to cancel the agreement. If you can’t contact the merchant, you should contact PayPal Customer Service by phone. Here’s how:

    Go to the PayPal website.
Click Contact Us at the bottom of any page.
Click Call Us, then click Continue for our Customer Service phone number.

Please note that after canceling a payment, subscription, or automatic billing agreement, you are still required to pay the merchant for the goods or services you received.
